Masses of Remembrance
A special thanks to Julie Fogarty for all her work with the Masses of Remembrance video.
Attached above is the video that was shown during our Masses of Remembrance this weekend. Please feel free to share this with your friends and loved ones, especially if they were not able to be present this weekend. Candles were lit for each of those who have died as well as for those who’ve died as a result of the global pandemic.
Table of the Dead – La Ofrenda

The Day of the Dead (“Día de Muertos” in Spanish, not “Día de los Muertos”) is one of the most ubiquitous traditions of Mexican culture. While the most easily recognizable aspects are probably the various representations of skulls and skeletons, the one that holds the most meaning for those celebrating is the altar, or ofrenda in Spanish. In many ways the ofrenda is what the whole celebration is about. Because of this, in order to really understand what it is about it is helpful to know a little about the meaning and the significance of the whole celebration. Click here to read more.

Travel with your hosts from Nevada, California, and Hawaii to explore transformative new ideas, deepen in knowledge of the Catholic faith, and share our diverse gifts with each other and our communities as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Each year, the St. Matthias Community participates in St. Francis Center’s Toy Drive through our Giving Tree. This year, due to the public health restrictions, we are asking parishioners to support this effort in a different way. Staring on the first weekend of Advent (Nov 28-29), our Giving Tree will be set up in the Church. Parishioners are asked to donate $25 gift cards to Target. Sr. Christina from St. Francis Center writes, “Why Target cards? …this year, we are hoping for only Target gift cards so that parents can either shop online or safely go to the store for whatever their family may need. Some will select toys, some will need to select clothing, food or household items.” Target gift cards provide flexibility for families. Cards will be due Dec 9th. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.
Open Wide Our Hearts
Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love was developed by the Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). It was approved by the full body of bishops as a formal statement in November 2018. This series, offered by the Justice and Charity Commission of St. Matthias Church, seeks to raise awareness of Church teaching about racism and educate parishioners about this aspect of Catholic Social Teaching. This four-week virtual series for the season of Advent will include prayer, video presentations, and discussion of the document. All materials will be provided. Dates: Nov 30, Dec 7, 14, and 21 Time: 7:00 – 8:30 pm Where: Google Meet

Saturday 5:00 pm Mass is live-streamed to our YouTube channel “Live Streams from St. Matthias in Redwood City.” We will no longer be live-streaming the outdoor Mass. Please subscribe to the channel for easier access.
St. Charles will offer one Mass per weekend, Sunday 8:30 am outdoors in the parking lot between the Parish Center and Church. Folks are invited to bring their own chairs. This Mass will also be live streamed to St. Charles’ Facebook page.
