Murder on the Freedom Train – April 22, 2023 at 6:00 pm
Do you remember how much fun it was to play the board game “Clue?” Or to read Agatha Christie mysteries? Come to St. Matthias’ Murder Mystery Silent Auction & Dinner celebration.
Our Murder Mystery Silent Auction & Dinner is centered around a real historical event – the Freedom Train. In an effort to help Americans understand their own history and to unify the nation following World War II, the Truman administration conceived of a moving museum in 1947, dubbed “The Freedom Train.” The train was loaded with our nation’s important documents, like the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Emancipation Proclamation. The train made a 37,000 mile journey through all 48 states. 3 million Americans gathered to welcome the train in their cities, boarded the train, and celebrated with picnic lunches. There were songs written by Irving Berlin (sung by Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters), books written, and lots of commemorative items sold.
Murder on the Freedom Train is written by our own Music Director, Randall Watts, and will be performed by local talent.
